Tool # 9

I think that technology is crucial in every single classroom today. Our students are surrounded by technology all the time and it seems to make the learning process easier and fun for them. They love working with computers and ipods. It motivates them to learn and share what they do. While working on tool 9 I found tutpup, I really liked this website and I can totally use it in my classroom with my students. I like the idea of my students competing versus each other or versus another class. I liked the different levels they have, that way my students can adapt the game according to their skills level. Tutpup can definitely be a station during math time in my classroom, I would have my students adding and subtracting and competing to win. Some apps that we have on our ipods are: naming shapes, alpha tracing and number recognition. The way I make sure my students are working properly while using the devices is that I sit near them to monitor, but I also have a “ipod capitan“ at the table that helps me supervise. In my classroom, another way my students can use the small devices is for typing. My students are learning how to write and I am sure that typing sight words and words that they know would highly motivate them to write more words or better yet complete sentences!!

Tool # 8

This tool was probably my favorite because I have been working on it since August. I love having technology in my classroom like the ipods and the net books. My students totally love to use these devices during our centers time. I have been downloading different apps for them and they learn to use them right away! 3 things I learned from watching the videos were: -setting up my itunes account ( I was not able to do it by myself back in August) - the use of webcams for academic purposes - technology devices are great tools for students to learn independently We use our devices during centers, my students know how to work with tumble books, and some apps for writing, reading and counting.

Tool # 7

For tool 7, I decided to create a project on a topic that we recently saw in my classroom.

Content objective: TLW research and analyze data/information about spiders.

To be implemented: The project will be done in a week during science time

Tools: TLW use a variety of books, magazines, and the Internet (google, brain pop, skype)

Plan: the students will work as a big group and list several questions about spiders that will be answered by researching about that topic. My class will invite another kindergarten class to work collaboratively and the information could be exchanged through skype discussions.

Tool # 6

I found tool  6 to be very helpful. I personally use Edmodo to keep in contact with my co-workers and follow up on a book study. I also use skype for personal purposes, but I have been intending to use it with a friend of mine who teaches kindergarten in Mexico. Our students could talk and share what they are learning and it would be a fascinating way to communicate with students around the world!
